What inspired me to write this blog is the fact that I am always asked a lot of questions when I mention that my son goes to an International Baccalaureate school in Chennai. “Why have you made such a choice?”, “what are the advantages of an IB diploma instead of a conventional national board school certification?”, “what kind of educational standard is that?”, “is it very expensive to study in an international board school?” are all questions that I am always flooded with. Therefore, I am trying to satiate this natural curiosity of all concerned parents and give valuable inputs about this board of education which offers many unique benefits to students. What struck me as a great thing as soon as I found out more about the IB diploma course curriculum was the versatility of this syllabus. This curriculum is designed in such a way that students are given freedom to choose subjects of their own liking for the advanced course study stages and this gives them a real chance to excel. All the basic subjects are covered too but students are given the freedom to make their own combinations of subjects at the diploma stage.
I also admire the fact that an IB diploma course includes subjects like logic and analytical skills as compulsory subjects in the curriculum. This ensures that students completing this course are well equipped to think clearly and make sound decisions in the future. This curriculum is also designed in such a way that only age appropriate syllabi are taught to students right from the beginning stages and even very young children can benefit from this curriculum. So if I have to move aboard sometime in the future, I need not worry about finding an appropriate board of education for my son!
