Every time I mention the fact that my children are in an International residential school in Chennai, I always get looks of incredulity from people. They ask me why my children are in boarding right here when I live in the same city?! Is this not an unreasonable and expensive proposition? What is the logic behind such a choice? The questions are endless. With this blog, I intend to put forth all the reasons why I made such a choice. The first reason I chose a school with an international curriculum is to ensure that my children are not lacking in any way when it comes to exposure in education. It is common knowledge that most work environments are truly Global in nature and which country you are in matters very little in a world that is connected by the internet. Children must have enough exposure to various cultures and practices to gain enough confidence to succeed in such a workplace. They must also learn early to appreciate differences in cultures and adapt easily. Thus I chose a globally recognized curriculum for my children, namely the IB diploma.
There are many valid reasons why my children are in an International residential school in Chennai. The main reason why I chose boarding school as the best option for my children is because I want them to fully benefit from the international curriculum of study that they follow. They have the advantage of 24 hour access to the schools facilities and this gives them a definite advantage. Moreover, the school environment is a beautiful one and they lead very happy and busy lives at school with regular schedules and a lot of extra-curricular activities like riding lessons and so on. Both my husband and I are busy working late through the week and my children being at a boarding school works very well for a family like mine. Moreover, they are only boarders for the weekdays and come home for the weekends. I dare say I spend more time with my children because they are home in the weekends than most parents can spend with their children even though they are day scholars! Our time together as a family in the weekends is very special and we get to know a lot about what is going on in our children’s lives. They are also close to their mentors at school and are very independent now. Now, do you realize why I’m proud of the choice I made?!
