All about choosing a Montessori kindergarten private school.

There can be no doubt in any parent’s mind that the decision regarding your child’s first school is the most important. The influences and experiences that a child goes through in these vital first years of life can define the child’s adult personality and value system. Given this fact, can you afford to take any kind of risk when you are choosing? There are many philosophies that are followed by different systems of education and one that finds universal acceptance as best for the overall development of the child is the philosophy of Maria Montessori which scientifically aids complete and holistic development in children. This is why it makes good sense to choose only a reputed Montessori kindergarten private school for your child.

One of the most important factors that you should consider when choosing such a school is whether the teachers and staff involved are correctly qualified for the job. The Montessori system of education advocates facilitators rather than teachers and these “facilitators” function by creating the ideal learning and developing environment for the child in which the child learns on his or her own, through the process of discovery and self realization. Unless the staff concerned have had proper and Montessori specific training, understanding the values advocated by this superior educational philosophy can be difficult. This is the important reason why only AMI (Association Montessori des International) trained and certified teachers and assisting staff must be involved in these first and vitally important few years of your child’s life.

Any kindergarten school, apart from following a good educational philosophy, must also be attractively set up to keep the child’s attention and to keep children interested in their environment enough to be more receptive. Social activities that encourage children to learn to live and communicate well in varied groups of society are also very important. Clean and comfortable classrooms that are designed with the needs of young children in mind are essential. Children should also have adequate outdoor play facilities to enable healthy physical development and promote group play. Young children are very open to absorbing new facts from their environment and so the school environment must be dynamically designed to give the children adequate exposure to new experiences on a regular basis. The environment must also not be confined to the indoors but must be a healthy mix of both indoors and outdoors.

If you are in the process of choosing the right Montessori kindergarten private school for your child, ensure that you spend some time observing how the school functions before you make your choice. This should give you a fair idea of how happy and comfortable your child will be in such an environment. Both the physical environment and the teaching facilitators and assistants must be of the right quality to ensure that your child gets the best start to schooling and the best start to life! After all, the most important concern of any parent is to give their children the best start possible in life so that their future is secure and happy!

Why I settled for an international baccalaureate school in Chennai.

Some of the biggest arguments that I have had with my husband are regarding what kind of school to choose for our children. I’m sure all new parents have had the same sort of argument at one time or another. I was born here and educated locally in a conventional national board school. Not so the case with my husband. He was born here but educated all around the world, starting with the UK, then Singapore, then Germany and then the Middle East. He is a staunch believer in international education. I am staunch believer in Indian education. It was only when my husband tasked me with learning everything there is to know about international education that I was convinced that nothing could be better for our children than an international baccalaureate school in Chennai! The IB as this diploma is called is one of the most child centric but thorough boards of education that is globally recognized and rightly so. The syllabus is simply brilliant!

The main reason that I finally agreed with my husband and finally settled for an international baccalaureate school Chennai is because of the brilliant syllabus and the rigorous but criteria oriented assessments through which this diploma is awarded. No one can deny that children need an international exposure early in life because the world is fast shrinking into a “global village”. An IB diploma is designed to make critical thinking and universally tolerant adults out of its candidates and this appealed to me hugely! Not many boards offer a curriculum in which the student is encouraged to think freely and make his or her own choices. The flexibility of the syllabus offered for an IB diploma and the versatile way in which students are assessed is a big draw for me. There are actually papers called theory of knowledge (which is purely critical thinking exercises) and EE (extended essay which is a detailed paper on any one subject that the student writes under a teacher’s supervision). I strongly believe that this is what our children need to be taught! To think on their own and make logical decisions! Another advantage is the international exposure they get through the syllabus.

IGCSE School – Way Ahead Of Other Schools

International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) schools is one of the many educational boards that are opened for parents who are looking out for the right pattern of education for their children. IGCSE is a globally recognized certification that carries weight just like State board, CBSE or ICSE boards. IGCSE is a two year programme that is opted during class 9 and class 10. The final examinations are conducted every May. International schools that offer this form of curriculum are preferred by parents for the ambience and the learning methodology. The programme is not just suitable for children of expatriates, foreign ambassadors or NRI but also suitable for those students who want to travel abroad for higher studies.

IGCSE schools offer a wide range of subjects to choose from. The biggest advantage of this form of education is that here students are not forced to study all the subjects. There are number of courses that can interest a student and they are at their will to choose any discipline that interests them. There are different foreign languages to choose from including, French, German, Spanish, etc. Apart from the languages, Humanities, Science, Advanced Mathematics, Geography, History and other subjects are available. The curriculum is balanced and flexible to create the right learning atmosphere for your child. Apart from this a dash of sports and extracurricular activities like quiz, debate, painting, etc are part of the school activities.

There is abundance of choice when it comes to international schools; parents are making their selection process stricter to enroll their children only in the best of schools. Apart from the curriculum and teaching methodologies the school infrastructure also plays a pivotal role while making a selection. Some of the facilities offered by global schools are transportation, boarding and lodging facilities, qualified faculties, e-learning, greenery, adequate facilities for sports and other extracurricular activities. Because of all the above said factors the cost of education is high. Consider a school depending on the planned budget. There is no doubt that compared to the local schools, international schools are definitely way ahead in terms of education and infrastructure.

What is an A Level School?

Given the diversity we see in education systems these days, there are innumerable choices parents can make for their children’ schooling, including the number of curricula or boards of education to choose from. In India, we commonly refer to pre-university levels of education as higher secondary level schooling. In most western countries, students are required to pass their A levels before proceeding on to college. So, what does an offer? Is it really different from a higher secondary curriculum? Well, the answer to this question is both yes and no! These examinations are the equivalent of higher secondary examinations but they come with a fundamental difference. A level subjects can be chosen according to the students’ preferences and any combination of subjects can be chosen.

Best A Level School Chennai
It is the internationally accepted norm that every student who pursues a higher level of education, that is college or university education, must have a certain basic level of education before being admitted to such a course. This basic level of education is commonly referred to as the K + 12 years system. In this system, a student has undergone kindergarten and twelve years of school study, starting from grade or class 1 to grade or class twelve. What we commonly refer to as classes 11 and 12, are referred to as A1 and A2 levels when it comes to A levels. In this system, the student has complete freedom to choose subjects of his/her own liking, rather than being thrust upon to study subjects he/she is weak in or not interested in!

So, this freedom is what an A level school offers. Your child will get the chance to study exactly those subjects that he/she is strong in and truly interested in, rather than having to study subjects simply because they are part of the prescribed course. The level of versatility these examinations offer to students is unmatched! An artistically inclined student can easily choose subjects like fine arts as his/her A level subject and other related subjects like styles or schools of painting, the history of folk arts and so on. Such a student will not be limited to choose between set of curricula subjects like PCMB (physics, chemistry, mathematics and Biology) or commerce groups (commerce, economics, statistics and accountancy).

No one can argue that the final two years of schooling are the most important in a student’s life because these are the years when a student can make an informed decision about further education. So, it also stands to reason that these final years of schooling must be tailored to suit the student’s needs, rather than put undue pressure on the student. When looking at this light, A levels are a great curriculum to follow, rather than the conventional curricula which sometimes force students to deal with subjects they would rather not pursue! However, there is a flipside to every coin and for this curriculum to be right for your child, you must ensure that your child is sure about what he/she wants to do in the future!
